Team Artemis Women's Grappling Tribe

Team Artemis NYC would like to invite the members of this group to check out our new Women’s Wrestling Club Tribe.

We run a female-managed training meet that is open to all women interested in learning about safe wrestling and grappling. The grappling work starts from a base of Brazilian jiujutsu. We also welcome practitioners other grappling styles, such as judo and Korean wrestling, as well as Western freestyle wrestling. On special occasions, we are visited by high-level guest instructors who give a specific lesson in bjj or other groundfighting arts.

Folks with prior wrestling & grappling experience are encouraged to share their knowledge in a "physical round table" style.

The group will announce our training sessions, competitive meets, promotional activities, and encourage discussion of the grappling arts for competition, fitness, self-defence, and empowerment.

The URL for our tribe is http://tribes.tribe.net/teamartemis

You can also visit our website at http://www.artemisnyc.com/

Is it necessary to compete?

I've noticed that most of the higher ranking guys at our academy compete, or have done so in the past. Personally, I was never interested in competing. But having noticed this phenomenon, I wonder if there is a correlation between competing and attaining a higher rank. Is it possible to hold a high rank without ever having competed?

Hey.

I am a bouncer at a very high volume (read: very high risk) night club. Every night I have to apply my skills to keep a fight from happening, to stop a fight once it has happened, and to end a fight. Are there any other bouncers out there that have had to rely on their BJJ training? I'm sure there are. I'd like to hear some experiences of anyone out there that is in a similar situation.

East Bay Martial Artist looking for workout partners

I'm looking for a serious training partner(s) in the East Bay Area available mornings to cross-train and review technique. I have been working out by myself for years now and want to bring in others to share insight and inspiration.

My own personal background includes Judo/BJJ, years of professional work in fitness and body/mind education, and a history in a diversity of martial arts. I hope to work on functional training, increasing my speed and power, endurance, bodyweight training, and putting ON some body mass. I have been doing a lot of learning from Olympic medalist, wrestling, and Jiujitsu champion Rhadi Ferguson who has some great training resources at intocombat.com.

I have been studying Judo and BJJ in SF, but will focus my cross training in the East Bay for the summer. Currently I'm a member at Cal Fitness and Rec where they have a mat room, gobs of freeweights and machines, and an outdoor running track - all good for cross training.

Looking for folks willing and able to learn and share their knowledge, to support, motivate and inspire, to work and study with fervor and enthusiasm and, of course, have fun.

Hi all,

I just joined your tribe, I'm a blue belt at a Gracie Barra school in Del Mar (San Diego). Anyway, if you here of any tournaments between here and the bay area, please post them - I'd like to compete more, but haven't found an effective way on the net to find out where the tournaments are. I got an email from Tinguinha, who runs the GB school in OC, and there is a no-GI tournament in LA coming up in a few weeks - I'll be out of town for that one, but thought some of you may be interested. Here's the link: http://www.nogitournament.com/

Happy training,
